Three Benefits Planned for Beloved Island Residents

Making the island’s nickname come to life, the Love City community is rallying support and digging deep to help three long-time residents with medical issues.

Two of the benefit parties, one in Coral Bay and one in Chocolate Hole, are scheduled for Sunday, February 10, and the third is set for Sunday, March 2.

Island Blues is hosting a “Kenefit” for favorite island bartender Kenny Quinn on February 10 starting at 2 p.m. There will be no shortage of entertainment as a full roster of talented musicians, from Johnny B to Rich Greengold, are scheduled to perform.

A slew of raffle prizes will be available, so don’t forget to purchase tickets — $5 each or five for $20 — at both Connections locations and Keep Me Posted.

All singles out there should save the date as an evening with the island’s most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes will be available at a live auction between 7 and 9 p.m.

Dig deep in those pockets and help get Quinn through this difficult time. See you there!

Get an earlier start on Sunday, February 10, at the last Pond Bay Open before developers break ground on the Pond Bay Club, bringing to an end the era of quirky golf tournaments in Chocolate Hole.

Help offset Ocean Grill co-owner Jim Gillfillan’s medical costs and celebrate his life at the Tahiti Open at Pond Bay starting at 11 a.m. on a course designed by veteran island linksmen Bernie Sheehan and Steve Deisher.

Residents or businesses can sponsor a hole as either a bronze, $100, silver, $500, or gold, $1,000, supporter. Teams of four can register for $100 — or individuals can register for $25 — at Connections.

Registration will be open on February 10 between 9 and 11 a.m. Don’t miss out on a chance to take home a trophy made by Love City’s own Paul Pono.

Raffle prizes for the Tahiti Open include a weekend stay at the Sandcastle Hotel in Jost Van Dyke, massages and a sunset cruise for 10 aboard Sadie Sea.

Tickets are $10 each or three for $25 and are available at Connections. The event is on rain or shine so get those golf clubs ready!

Mardi Gras will be the theme of the day on Sunday, March 2, when Coral Bay comes together at Shipwreck Landing for a Jambalaya Jump Up for Tiffany Jensen.

Jensen, a New Orleans-native, was a long-time Coral Bay resident and Shipwreck family member before she moved to Colorado last year and opened Shipwreck Landing North in Winter Park.

Help defray Jensen’s medical costs and enjoy down-home ‘Nawlens food like gumbo and pulled pork poor boys while listening to some of the best live music around.

The day will include quarter horse races, tons of raffle prizes and a 50/50. The fun starts at noon and the Shipwreck crew is still finalizing details.

In the meantime, however, stop by the restaurant before Sunday, February 3, and purchase a $10 chance to win the Super Bowl jackpot to support Jensen before the March 2 Mardi Gras party.
