More than 200 people came out to support the Rotary Club of St. John and sample the best of what the island’s finest restaurants have to offer at Flavors 2007 on Saturday, November 17, at the Westin Resort and Villas.
Nearly $20,000 was raised for the local Rotary — and money is still coming in, explained St. John Rotary President Joan Bermingham.
“There’s no final tally yet because we still have money coming in,” said Bermingham. “I think it was very successful.”
The money will go to several of Rotary’s educational programs and scholarships.
Guests at Flavors voted for their favorite spread at the event, with one coming out ahead as the clear winner.
“The Westin won overall, and the runners up were Zozo’s and Ted’s Supper Club,” said Bermingham. “When guests entered the party, they traded their tickets for ballots, so everybody got to choose their favorite.”
Everything from the food to the music helped make the evening successful, Bermingham continued.
“The restaurants and caterers all did a fabulous job preparing and serving all of the guests,” she said. “In the Sand Band was outstanding and did a great job involving the guests.”
Governor Attended Event
The seventh annual Rotary fundraiser even attracted the attention of Governor John deJongh, who attended the event.
The restaurants and catering services who presented their delectable treats helped make this year’s Flavors the best ever, explained Bermingham.
Students Volunteered
“We felt it was the best one ever because of all the effort put in by the restaurants and catering services who did an outstanding job,” she said. “We’re very appreciative of their presentations and how they interacted with the guests.”
Several of the island’s children were put to the test when they volunteered for the event — and they passed with flying colors, explained Bermingham.
“We want to thank the students who helped set up in the afternoon,” she said. “They worked with the restaurants and caterers to solve any problems, and they did an outstanding job. They were very polite, well-mannered and just a wonderful example of the students we have here on St. John.”
