St. John-based MaLinda Media debuts Issue No. Two of St. Thomas Magazine

St. Thomas Magazine Issue No. Two hit newsstands last week after unveiling the latest edition of St. John Magazine (Issue No. 4) in November 2009. The stunning St. Thomas cover photo was taken on the far west coast of the island by Alain Brin. The St. Thomas photographer was able to capture the brilliant sunset over the only area on island where the Altantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea meet each other on the same beach.

Publisher MaLinda Nelson’s Letter:

The reception to our inaugural issue was incredibly warm and the responses from readers — many of which were emotion-filled, thoughtful and kind — were truly overwhelming in their appreciation that St. Thomas was finally showcased in a way of which they could be proud.

The MaLinda Media team brought back stories of old-time St. Thomas and of a peaceful society that existed in a time of reverence. Many of our readers enjoyed reconnecting with memories of days past and gaining knowledge of the diverse cultures and people that call St. Thomas home.

In this second issue, we bring to life many more stories rich in history to provide readers with a better understanding of this beautiful island — from sailing on the sea to the underwater world below.

The plantation era comes alive in our story on the McConnell family and their historic Estate Canaan and Sherpenjewel home. Naturalists will find peace in a photographic essay as they explore St. Thomas’ wild north west coast. Divers and historians will take you on an underwater historical tour of Charlotte Amalie harbor.

Casual diners and hard-core foodies will appreciate their meals even more after learning a story or two about three popular island chefs. Experience the thrill and exhaustion that the luckiest sport fishermen feel as you witness them hooking and fighting giant blue marlin — dancing and skipping on the surface of the sea.

What a better way to relax than with “Mama Dohm” in Red Hook as you wait for the boat to St. John? Sail on an Optimist and bet on the next generation of Virgin Islands sailors to get you back to St. Thomas. Attend a traditional Indian wedding — an embodiment of old and new in the Caribbean — lasting eight days from start to finish!

And finally, stay grounded as you kayak, hike and snorkel the mysterious St. Thomas mangrove lagoon with the whole family. This special place will bring you closer to Mother Nature and you will have a new-found respect for this fascinating ecosystem that provides a safe haven for many creatures.

A very special thanks goes to all the feature subjects for allowing the MaLinda Media team time to capture their stories, thoughts and special spots.

MaLinda Media would be thrilled to hear from you. Give us your comments and suggestions.
