The island’s finest restaurants will come together to offer their delectable creations for sampling on Saturday, November 17, when the St. John Rotary Club hosts its annual fundraiser, Flavors, at the Westin Resort and Villas.
Several local restaurants and catering companies are already lined up for the event, including East West Catering, KatiLady Catering, Mathayom Private Chefs, Asolare, Baked in the Sun, Chloe and Bernard’s, Fish Trap, The Lime Inn, Morgan’s Mango, Ocean Grill, Paradiso, Stone Terrace and Zozo’s Ristorante. Bellows International, West Indies Corp. and Premier Wines and Spirits are also sponsoring the event.
Marketplace restaurants will offer cocktails beginning at 6:30 p.m., and local restaurants will offer samples of their food from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Live music provided by In the Sand will keep event-goers dancing until around 11 p.m., and wine tastings will be presented throughout the evening. There will also be a $5 raffle, with half of the proceeds going to the winner and half going to the St. John Rotary Club.
Tickets are $100 per person, and the cost includes the food, cocktails, wine tasting and live music, explained St. John Rotary President Joan Bermingham.
Best Food Under One Tent
“It’s all the best restaurants and catering services on St. John under the tent, on the beach at the Westin, in one evening,” said Bermingham. “It’s going to be very exciting. We want lots of people to come.”
The event will raise money for several of Rotary’s projects, including the Javon Jade Alfred Scholarship and the books and supplies the club donates to students at the beginning of each school year. Five thousand dollars from the event’s proceeds will be donated to the Kids And The Sea program, fulfilling a $10,000 commitment the local Rotary made last year.
The fundraiser will also help St. John Rotary launch its CPR program at the Julius E. Sprauve School and Gifft Hill School, explained Bermingham.
“The American Heart Association is trying to spread knowledge of CPR into all communities, so we’re teaching CPR to the students,” she said. “The students will get a booklet and CD they can take home with them, and they’ll be able to teach friends and family members. Bob Malacarne from St. John Rescue is doing the instruction, and Rotary is providing the kits.”
