The fleet enjoyed perfect sailing weather for the 33rd annual Thanksgiving Regatta.

CORAL BAY — With light winds, calm seas and blue skies, sailors enjoyed two days of postcard perfect weather for the 33rd annual Thanksgiving Regatta hosted by Coral Bay Yacht Club Friday and Saturday, November 28, and 29.

A total of 25 vessels, ranging from a 1913 island trader to two 1933 Argentine ketches, a local Coral Bay Cowhorn and a Bequi sailer to modern J boats and cruisers, raced in seven different classes.

The fleet set sail out of Coral Bay harbor to enjoy this annual Thanksgiving weekend tradition with Friday featuring single-handed sailors and traditional boats and Saturday open to crews.

The race committee of Coral Bay Yacht Club Commodore Stephen Hendren, committee boat sponsor Peter Hoschl of Angel’s Rest and other committee members conducted a series of PHRF spinnaker, PHRF non-spinnaker, pursuit, traditional and multi hull races.

First place in the PHRF Spinnaker Class was Mike Finlay and crew on Ocean Potion. First place in PHRF Non-spinnaker Class was Denise Wright and crew aboard Reality Switch. First place in Traditional Class was John and Roni Everton on Goucho.

First place in the Pursuit Under 30 Foot Class was Brian Morrisette and crew on Sweet Ting. The Pursuit 30 to 40 Foot Class winner was Sara O’Neill and crew on Odege, and the Over 40 Foot Class was Nate Emrich and crew on Jetsunema. The Multi Hull winner was Leo and Erin Perez on YeeHaw.

All funding and proceeds are placed with the non-profit youth sailing program St. John Kids and the Sea. The regatta was sponsored by Skinny Legs Restaurant, Premier Wines and Spirits and the Coral Bay Yacht Club.
