Accused murderer Anselmo Boston’s defense counsel is expected to file a statement in V.I. Superior Court Thursday morning, May 8, from a witness alleging someone else killed 21-year-old Pennsylvania resident James Cockayne during the early morning hours of June 19, 2007.
Attorney Michael Joseph first announced the existence of a new witness at a pre-trial conference last week, but the official statement was not expected to be filed until tomorrow, when it will become public record.
Although details remained sketchy Wednesday afternoon, a witness is said to have talked to the person who killed Cockayne. The witness’s account is expected to include details about how the killer fled the scene of the crime and his desire to remain out of Cruz Bay for fear of being arrested.
Boston and Kamal Thomas were arrested and charged with Cockayne’s murder last summer. Both men are under house arrest and terms of their bail should remain the same until the case goes to trial in early October before V.I. Superior Court Judge Brenda Hollar.
