Man Stabbed in Cruz Bay For Breaking Up a Fight; Suspect Arrested

Cruz Bay, St. John, VI — On Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at approximately 3:07pm a male with a stab wound was transported from St. John to the Roy L. Schneider Regional Medical Center on St. Thomas.

Upon arrival officers made contact with an individual who stated that he was exiting a Business Establishment, located in Cruz Bay, St. John, when he observed a couple walking in front of him.

He further stated that he observed the suspect in this matter swing a fist at the male and as a result, the victim stepped between the female and the suspect. The victim then states that the suspect took out a kitchen knife from the back of his waist and stabbed him to his abdomen. The victim was then taken into surgery.

The suspect Akil Gums, 35-year-old, was arrested for Assault 3rd. Unable to post bail, Gumbs was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections.
