A 28-year-old St. John man was stabbed and robbed in Cruz Bay early Sunday morning, Dec. 11. The man, whose identity was not released by the V.I. Police Department, told officers that he was walking home past Santos Laundromat in Enighed around 2:35 a.m., when a black vehicle containing two black males pulled alongside him.
The two men emerged from the vehicle, stabbed the victim and took his gold necklace.
The victim was able to make his way to the Leander Jurgan Command. The police called EMS and the victim was taken to Myrah Keating Smith Community Health Center, where he was treated for his wounds. He was then transported to Schneider Regional Medical Center and admitted in stable condition at 4 a.m.
On Monday, Dec. 12, V.I. Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Thomas Hannah initially stated that the victim was stabbed 40 times. He later amended the figure to four.
However, Harold Wallace, administrator of MKSCHC, said that the victim suffered three stab wounds around the lower back and chest.
Schneider Regional Medical Center Chief Operating Officer Amos Carty was pressed for an accurate wound count, but would only say that there were multiple stab wounds.
Adding further to the confusion, News 2Â’s Monday evening telecast reported that the victim was stabbed 12 times.
St. John Tradewinds was unable to obtain any new information including how many stab wounds the victim actually suffered, at press time.
