Jersey Congressman Responds to Cockayne’s Friend

Dear Mr. Brigham:

I was saddened to receive your letter detailing the brutal killing of your young friend, Jamie Cockayne. My sincerest apologies for the tardy response to your letter.

It is my understanding that my colleague, Congressman Patrick Murphy, who represents the 8th Congressional District in Pennsylvania where the Cockayne family lives, is in contact with the Cockaynes and has been in communication with John deJongh Jr., governor, U.S. Virgin Islands, to make sure this case is given the attention and resources necessary to bring those responsible to justice. As Congressman Murphy has taken the lead, I have reached out to him to offer my support and have asked him to let me know if I can be of any assistance in his efforts.

In addition, I have written directly to Governor deJongh to inquire about the current status of the investigation and to urge his assistance in arranging for the Cockaynes to meet with the investigators on the case. I am copying Congresswoman Donna Christensen, representative of the U.S. Virgin Islands, to make sure she is aware of the situation. Similarly, I have written FBI Director Mueller to request information.

Please be assured I or my staff will be in touch with you again as soon as I have information to share with you. In the interim, please relay my sincerest sympathies to Jamie’s family. My thoughts are with them.

Sincerely,
Rodney P. Frelinghuysen
Member of Congress
