Love City Triathlon and Aquathon Postponed Until September 26 PDF Print E-mail

The St. John Landsharks regrets to announce the postponement of the Love City Triathlon and Aquathon which was scheduled for Sunday, September 5.

Both events are being rescheduled for Sunday September 26. While conditions on the island of St. John are improving after the passing of Hurricane Earl, the road and water upon which the races are conducted are still being cleaned, cleared and repaired.

Fourth Lionfish Caught in St. John Waters PDF Print E-mail

NOAA officials spotted and nabbed this juvenile lionfish, above, in Fish Bay earlier this month.

As officials continue monitoring sensitive reefs for signs of lionfish, an invasive species which could potentially devastate local fish populations, the fourth specimen was captured off the shores of St. John this month.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration officials spotted the lionfish in Fish Bay on Thursday, July 15, and captured the fish on July 16, according V.I. National Park’s Chief of Resource Management Rafe Boulon.

“The scientists were out there on different work when they spotted the lionfish in Fish Bay,” said Boulon. “They went back out the next day and caught it. It was about five inches in total length, so it was still a juvenile.”

Shanté Monsanto-Weeks, at left, was named Festival Queen, beating out Abigail Hyndman, above, JahVena Nisbett, above right, and Nanyamka Cagan, at right during an amazing show on Saturday night, June 26.

On Saturday, June 26, St. John was filled with a lot more glitz, glamour and poise than usual as four beautiful young ladies took to the stage vying to be the next  Miss St. John Festival Queen 2010.

Even though the pageant started an hour later than planned and the field was still recovering from a weeks-worth of continuous rainfall, the audience was  filled with many excited spectators to watch Jah’Vena Nisbett, Shanté Monsanto-Weeks, Abigail Hyndman and Nanyamka Cagan display their grace and beauty as they vied for the honor of representing the island as 2010 Miss St. John Festival Queen.

The girls were judged in six categories: a personal interview conducted prior to the show; introduction speech; swimwear; international costume; evening wear; and last but not least, question and answer.

Roane Christian Arrested for Burglary, Trespassing and Domestic Violence PDF Print E-mail

Roane "Boozie" Christian

V.I. Police Department officials on St. John arrested Roane “Boozie” Christian, 57, and charged him with Second Degree Burglary, Trespassing, Aggravated Assault and Battery and Disturbance of the Peace Domestic Violence.

According to the report Christian was arrested around 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, August 18, for assaulting a female victim. Christian and the victim were involved in a relationship.

VIPD officials said while the victim was at her home, Christian broke into her residence by crawling through her window. When he was inside the residence the two began to fight. During the fight Christian assaulted the woman by hitting her on her arm with a frying pan.

A celebration of Sandie’s life is scheduled at Caneel Bay's Turtle Point on Sunday, September 5, 2010, at 9:30 a.m.

Sandra Lynne Brown graced this world with her invisible angel wings on August 11, 1963, born to Jimmy Hal and Bobbye Darlene (Harden) Brown in Clovis, NM.

She left her home on earth on August 20, 2010 after a short illness.
