GHS Students Baking for ACC Flea Market

The Animal Care Center’s annual “No Fleas, Please,” Flea Market will be this Saturday, October 19,  at Gifft Hill School’s Upper Campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In addition to great bargains for everything from housewares to children’s toys, the  “No Fleas, Please,” Flea Market will feature a bake sale this year sponsored by GHS students.

Traditionally hosted at Winston Wells ball field in Cruz Bay, this year the flea market  has been relocated to the grounds of GHS on Gifft Hill Road in order to avoid damage to the newly seeded downtown ball field.

On Monday, October 8, the GHS’ Student Council met to discuss how the students could contribute to the event, and enthusiastically decided on a student bake sale. GHS Student Council members determined that proceeds from the sale will be divided between the school and the ACC.

GHS students have a history of helping out needy island organizations, and the ACC welcomes their partnership during the fundraiser. The flea market will feature furniture, housewares, decorative items including framed artwork, and a Children’s Table that will offer a selection of books featuring animal themes or animal characters in addition to a wide range of toys.

Donated goods are still being collected and can be dropped off at the shelter on the library road in Cruz Bay. Help for picking up large items can be arranged by calling the shelter at 774-1625.

The flea market will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and all proceeds will directly benefit the cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies at the shelter as well as at feeding stations throughout the island for homeless cats and kittens.
