Eleanora Christiana Christian Dies at 96

Eleanora Christiana Christian was born on June 9, 1910 on St. John to Thomas Rhymer and Edna Meyers. She was one of 12 children.

She was married to Desmon Christian, who preceded her in death after 50 years of marriage. She had one son, Wilford George, and became a mother to her sister Juliana’s children after her death in 1962.

She has five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Eleanora spent her early years working at the Sewing Project, Caneel Bay and the Peace Corps Program. Her cooking skills made her well-known in the community. She was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her son, Wilford George; niece and caretaker, Gwenavire Hyndman; sisters, Alice O’Connor and Alicia Brown; grandchidren, Deborah Christopher, Natalie, Sandra, Darril and Roy George; great-grandchildren, Shannon and Shimoy Chris-topher, Christopher Wellman, Rayshaun, Nasaun, Darril Jr., Laquita and Kyan George and Vanessia and Tia George; great-great-grandchildren, Jahnaya Christopher and Destiny Frazer; god children, Ruth Frett, Laurence Powell and others; nieces, Gwenavire Hyndman, Oretta Samuel, Edna Freeman, Naomi Varlack, Sheila Jackson and many other nieces too numerous to mention; and newphews, Henry Jackson, Orville Brown, Darius Rhymer, Joel Jackson and many other newphews too numerous to mention.
