Eirleen and George January Celebrate 55 Years of Marriage

George and Eirleen’s friends, above, provided sounds of old-time scratch bands.

It was old-time St. John on Tuesday afternoon, April 25, at the John’s Folly Learning Institute, when more than 60 residents came out to celebrate George and Eirleen January’s 55th wedding anniversary.

Married in 1951, the couple have spent many happy years in Coral Bay.

After grooving to the infectious rhythms of the scratch band, the Januarys’ family and friends enjoyed a lavish feast of chicken, fish, turkey and all the fixings—including sweet potato stuffing, macaroni and cheese, dumb bread and salads.

Plenty of singing and mingling got everyone in the mood for the multitude of cakes and sweets available to toast the still-happy couple.

“We’ve seen so much and been through it all,” said a beaming Eirleen.

Even Senator at Large Craig Barshinger was on hand to help the couple celebrate their “emerald” anniversary.

“This is so much fun,” he said. “It just gives me a great feeling to be here. I can’t say how wonderful it is.”
