DeJongh Announces Deal for St. John School Land

The Julius E. Sprauve School is one step closer to moving out of Cruz Bay thanks to a deal announced last week by Governor John deJongh, which would swap the approximately 115 acres of privately owned land in Estate Grange on St. Croix where Alexander Hamilton lived for the 55-acre Ethel May Bishop property in Estate Catherineberg, which was deeded to the V.I. National Park upon Bishop’s death in 1968. The governor made the announcement at a Wednesday, May 28, press briefing at the JESS campus, which he toured with West Virginia Senator Jay Rockefeller, a supporter of deJongh’s plan.
