It seemed like old-time St. John on Saturday night, Feb. 18, as Love City came out to wish Miss Lucy Smith-Prince a happy 90th birthday at the beachfront Friis Bay restaurant which carries her name.
A St. John celebrity, Miss Lucy in her flower festooned taxi is reknowned as one of the most popular taxi drivers on the island for decades.
In addition to showing off the sights of her home island, Miss Lucy would also entertain tourists with enchanting tales and traditional West Indian home cooking. She eventually opened a restaurant next to her Friis Bay home, called, simply enough, Miss Lucys.
Food, Fun and Dancing
The 40th anniversary of Miss Lucys 50th birthday was a huge success, with friends and family alike dancing to the infectious tunes of Koko and the Sunshine Band. More than 50 guests enjoyed a delicious feast of mutton, pork, chicken, sweet potato stuffing, okra fungi, peas and rice and johnny cake.
There was no shortage of birthday cake, or poems and tributes to Miss Lucy. Her son, daughters and close friends all paid homage to the living legend, Miss Lucy, whose name will forever be linked with traditional food and a hospitality.
