“The beaches are less crowded, the emphasis is on local over commercial, and the people share a friendly sense of neighborhood pride. Among the town’s attractions: monthly full-moon parties at Miss Lucy’s, and a Thanksgiving “Thankspigging” pot luck pig roast hosted by the community at Skinny Legs, where the eating often swells into a singalong.”

So begins Ashley Winchester’s description of Coral Bay in the New York Times‘ list of 52 Places to Go in 2016 which listed the small town on the quiet side of St. John as #4, just after Malta and before Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota.

    • I wholeheartedly agree–this is terrible. We have been regular visitors (not tourists any longer) to St. John for over 20 years. Little by little, the love city vibe is being eaten away by the careless attitudes of those who have no idea what St. John is all about. We don’t mention St. John to other people any more unless we think they would fit in and enjoy what the island has to offer. We have been following the proposed marina-disaster-in-the-making, but had not heard about an outlet mall. Maybe that part was a joke? Hope so!
