Dear St. Johnians,

The Coral Bay Yacht Club is pleased to announce its annual Spring Regatta and Flotilla Beach Party to be held on Saturday, April 1, benefiting the Guy Benjamin Elementary School in Coral Bay.

The day long event starts in the morning with a Regatta along one of our most popular race courses in Coral Bay. Individuals who have always wanted to crew aboard a racing sailboat and ‘old salts’ alike will have the opportunity to take part in the Regatta aboard some of the Virgin lslands’ finest sailing vessels.

Just after the start of the Regatta, the Flotilla will depart from Coral Harbor offering fumilies, children and anyone else a leisurely half day sail around the beautiful waters of Coral Bay. The race and flotilla will culminate at Vie’s Beach and Campground in Hansen Bay at noon where all participants as well as persons coming by land vehicle will be treated to an ‘island style’ Beach Party for the rest of the afternoon.

Locally-made West Indian food, bar-b-que, hamburgers and hotdogs, cold drinks, crab races and live music as well as swimming at one of island’s finest beaches will provide the backdrop for the Beach Party.

This very important event is one of our most gratifying annual fund raising activities as the proceeds are utilized to the direct benefit of the children attending Guy Benjamin Elementary School. Last year’s event raised a grand total of $8,000 which was used exclusively to begin construction of a new playground at the school.

This year our goal is to raise an additiooal $15,000 in order to complete the playground project. This is a large task and we are asking for your help and assistance in meeting our goal.

Funds from this event are generated through ticket sales, entry fees, t-shirt sales and raffle ticket sales. Members of the yacht club donate their time and energy to sponsoring and organizing the event.

What we desperately need this year is individual and corporate sponsors who will donate the funds necessary to acquire raffle prizes, t-shirts, food, etc.

We have all seen the generosity of St. Johnians who so fteely give to support the Sprauve School and the St. John School on Gifft Hill each year. It is unfortunate that the Guy Benjamin School, being somewhat out of the mainstream of Cruz Bay, does not get as much attention when it comes to fund raising activities.

This is why the Yacht Club is pro-active when it comes to supporting this small public school. We have made a difference for these children and with additional contributions and support from the community, we as a whole will positively influence the quality of education at the Guy Benjamin School. This is for the children —the future of St. John!

Contributions and donations can be arranged by calling 715-2666/643-2899 or in person at Cimmaron Builders’ offices located in the Lumberyard Complex in Cruz Bay.

Let’s all make a difference by demonstrating that St. John truly cares about the education of ALL of our children.

Sincerely,
David Conro, Commodore
