On Sunday, February 7, at approximately 3:20 p.m. V.I. Police Department officers on St. John were dispatched to the area of Privateer Bay, located in the island’s East End, to a possible recovered body on the bay side.
VIPD confirmed upon arrival that a body was in fact on the rocks on the eastern side of the rocky bay. Based on the appearance of the body it appeared that it had been in the water a number of days before washing ashore.
The deceased male, appearing to be Caucasian, was wearing three-quarter camouflage pants with a long sleeved shirt, that was bluish in color.
Being there was no current report of a missing Caucasian male in this district (St. Thomas/St. John), VIPD St. Thomas/St. John/Water Island District Chief Rodney F. Querrard Sr. made contact with the authorities in Tortola to ascertain if they had any reports of a missing person.
VIPD Chief Querrard was informed that a missing person report was filed that prior weekend, and that the person in question had not been located as of the time of the call.
VIPD on St. Thomas/St. John are working in conjunction with the Law Enforcement in Tortola to determine if this could be their missing person.
Chief Querrard wanted to acknowledge the Department of Planning and Natural Resources Officer and St. Thomas Rescue personnel for their assistance in retrieving the body.
