ACC’s Wagapalooza Is This Saturday

The spring ACC fundraiser Wagapalooza is this Saturday, May 10, starting at 5 p.m.

“Waga pre-registration is now open,” announced ACC President, Lucy Banks. “You may fill out a registration form on-line at www.wagapalooza.com, or at the ACC shelter on the library road in Cruz Bay, at St. John Hardware, and at the ACC Tuesday Adoption Clinic at Marketplace.”

“Registration is $20 for adults for each class entered and three classes for $50. Children 16 and under can register at $10 per class, three classes for $25 and must be accompanied by an adult. Registration on the day of the event is from 4:15 until 5 p.m. Adult registration on the day of the event, at the door, will be $25 per class.

The dog show classes were announced in the April 14-20 issue of Tradewinds, are listed on the ACC website, and on the back of each registration form. The dog show has eight classes in which to compete. First, second, and third place ribbons will be awarded in each class. Special ribbons will be given to the Queen of Wagapalooza, the King of Wagapalooza, and the Babe Award. Each year a very special dog is chosen for the Babe award. It honors a shelter dog whose spirit has shown the greatest improvement over the last year. This includes dogs adopted from the ACC shelter as well as from any other shelter.

Again, this year there will be the “Parade of Paws” that will be open to all dogs attending Waga but not participating in registered classes. A $5 donation to the Animal Care Center is required and all dogs in the parade will receive a ribbon.

Banks announces that a new and exciting addition to Waga this year is the Bounce House to be lent by Freshwater Church. For only $5 a child can jump all night long. For the safety of the children, age groups will be monitored and rotated throughout the night. An ACC volunteer will issue color-coded wristbands to designate age groups. All proceeds from the Bounce House will be donated to the ACC. In addition, Freshwater Church is also supplying a popcorn machine to add to the carnival atmosphere.

St. John’s greatest dog show and family fun night includes fabulous food and beverages, a children’s table with face-painting and coloring books as well as pet treats. A DJ will coordinate music throughout the event and the 2014 Wagapalooza t-shirt will be on sale.

“The ever-growing list of raffle items will surely please every raffle ticket holder,” said Banks.

Raffle tickets may be purchased at the ACC shelter, Connections East and West, St. John Hardware, and at the ACC Tuesday Adoption Clinic at Marketplace. The tickets for smaller items are $5 each or five for $20. Larger items such as valuable jewelry, boat charters, and villa vacations are $10 each or three for $25.

Cash and checks are preferred when registering for show classes and when purchasing raffle tickets. All proceeds from Wagapalooza go directly to funding the care, feeding, medical needs, and shelter for St. John’s homeless cats and dogs.

Banks exhorts all St. John residents and visitors to “Come and join in on the fun!”
