5% Early Payment Discount Extended Until Friday, August 12th ; Penalty and Interest Waivers for 2007 Bills Ends on August 15th

Lieutenant Governor Gregory R. Francis announced today that the five percent early payment discount for 2008 property taxes has been extended until Friday, August 12, 2011 in
hopes that more property owners will capitalize on this opportunity to save. A discount of 2.5% will apply to payments made after August 12th through the bill due date of August 20th.

According to Lt. Governor Francis, the response from taxpayers motivated the additional extension. “Our office was extremely encouraged by the positive response from Virgin Islands property owners to the discount,” he stated. “We realize that long lines may have deterred some taxpayers from taking advantage of the discount. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and hope this extension allows more of our property tax payers to take advantage
of the discount being offered.”

Francis also reminds Virgin Islands property owners to avoid penalty and interest fees by paying their 2007 taxes before the waiver for these charges ends on August 15th.
