3rd Annual Love City Car Show Set for Labor Day Weekend

The 3rd Annual Love City Car Show is set for the upcoming Labor Day weekend, Sunday, September 3 and Monday, September 4, in the Coral Bay Ball Field.

The event is a collaboration between the St. John Festival Committee and “Big” Al Smith and Jay Swartley, with the latter two forming the event through their mutual appreciation of car culture.

U.S. Virgin Islanders, British Virgin Islanders and tourists are invited to enjoy the radio-controlled cars and boats on display from local hobbyists along with the many vehicles registered to participate. Organizers are expecting a large number of all types of vehicles with entrants and participants coming from St. Thomas.

Food, drink and music performed by local bands and DJs will be available throughout the weekend. A Hot Wheels race track has been incorporated this year so children can participate. Each child will receive a free car with their $2 admission.

“As in previous years we will be donating all proceeds to a St John Youth organization,” said Jay Swartley, one of the car show organizers. The 2016 Love City Car Show proceeds were given to the Love City Pan Dragons.

The car show itself will take place Sunday, September 3 from 1pm to 5pm, and events will continue Monday the 4th from 9am to 5pm, with awards being presented at 3pm. The event will also be live streamed and filmed using a drone.

Admission is set at $2 for children and $5 for adults. For more information or to contact the organizers, visit http://www.lovecitycarshow.com/.
